"It's stinthat I evpleaarticus"
Is it just me, or does everyone see occasional crap in the sidebar of this blog? I suspect it's something to do with the latest Firefox update. Yesterday I got this:
"It's stinthat I evpleaarticus=rof 80ficalvd'm domdosl whae caspowdaeethens,t,ae cassoc wasskillsut that are so twrovidblems: (a)m esetwrsrle Iythusiastic misut the 8s to i I evpthe mh. What's fascinating about this is that it looks as though, if you squinted and had the correct brain in, it might actually make sense. Like it's in code or something. And clearly it kind of is, as somehow some link in some computing chain has turned something that makes sense (to someone at least) into what you see above. How did it happen? What process turned sense into that? Do I have a virus? I'm intrigued.
Update: I've decided it's a rather fine example of some Vogon poetry.

I use Internet Explorer, and don't see any of that stuff.
I use Firefox, and I don't see it either.
Apart from on this posting, I haven't seen any text with this kind of corruption (if that's what it is). I have tried the following browsers:
* Opera 10.10.
* Firefox 3.6.
* Chrome 4.0.
* Internet Deplorer, err, I mean Exploder, err, Explorer 8.0 (in IE8 and IE7 modes).
* Safari 4.0.4.
Perhaps it's time you scanned your computer for viruses and other malware. Also, you might want to check out the last section of this article.
My computer is scanned daily for viruses Captain Black, but that's a good point about administrator accounts.
It turns out it's probably a known cache corruption bug in Firefox 3.5.7.
It's interesting to see you talk of IE in such disparaging terms. This is far from being the first time I've had problems with Firefox. Right now for instance, I'm unable to copy and paste in this comments box, or use the keyboard navigation keys (up, down, left, right, home, end). This frequently happens in Firefox and never in IE, but when people spot bugs in Firefox they're all sympathetic and forgiving, as opposed to the "Ha! See!" attitude to IE. Personally I find they have equal numbers of good and bad points, but there you go.
Anyway this thing is intermittent and not causing me any serious problems, as it nearly always goes away when you hit Refresh. I'm not bothered about fixing it, what I'm really interested in is what precise process could have changed sensible text into what you see above.
It looks as though it's a mad kind of dialect!
But you might be on to something with the Vogon poetry :)
